Based around Port Nicholson, the city boasts a vibrant café culture, excellent galleries and an abundance of activities from mountain biking to kayaking and everything in between!
Unique shops can be found on Cuba street along with cafes and bars offering a range of goods with something to suit everyone. Take a stroll along Lambton Quay which is the busiest shopping district. From here you can take a cable car up to the beautiful Botanic Gardens. For lively evening entertainment visit Courtenay Place which boasts the city’s main bars and eateries.
Nearby is the Te Papa museum, the national museum of New Zealand. Te Papa was purpose built in 1998 and houses a unique collection of New Zealand and world history.
There are some great tramping tracks that take you along the coasts and hills of the city, taking in the many bays along the way (and even some famous filming locations from the Lord of the Rings movies!).
Wellington is the gateway to the South Island. From here you can catch the ferry over to Picton and explore another part of the country. There’s also an international airport with flights across New Zealand and beyond several times a day.
